Family Promise

Did you know that there are 4000 homeless children in the Mobile County school system?  That’s not a typo – 4000 homeless children.  Family Promise is a non-profit designed to help homeless families find temporary shelter and transition into permanent housing.  Since its inception more than 20 years ago, Family Promise has served more than 500,000 people – most of them children.

In Mobile and Baldwin counties, temporary housing is provided by 19 different churches on a weekly rotating basis.  Your church may well be part of this group – the Interfaith Hospitality Network.  Pete Mackey is the Vice-President of the local chapter and has been on the board for two years.  He describes it as the most vital and worthwhile non-profit that he has been associated with.

As you might imagine, December is a stressful time for homeless parents.  Inclement weather and the lack of money to buy presents add to that stress.  Please consider donating money, toys or clothing this month.  Visit the website (www.familypromisemobile.org) to see the good work being done by the wonderful staff and volunteers.
