Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras is party time in Mobile! Dancing, parading and merry making combine with unlimited alcohol to create a festive environment which, according to an OB-GYN friend of mine, invariably leads to an increase in STDs. STDs are a huge problem for society and for the infected person. CDC estimates that there are approximately 19 million new STD infections each year.

Sexually transmitted diseases are the most common communicable diseases in the world.

It is not just a young person’s problem. In the past decade STDs have more than doubled in people age 65 and older.

If you have any reason to suspect that you have a sexually transmitted disease see a doctor. Most diseases are curable. If you did not know the person with whom you were having sex had an STD you should consult a lawyer. STDs can be serious, incurable, life altering events.
