FUN – CHARITY – SATURDAY

This Saturday, October 17, 2009, my church, The Episcopal Church of the Advent in Lillian, Alabama, will host its 8th Annual BBQ & Blues from 10-2. This is our annual fundraiser and the proceeds go to charities like Wilmer Hall’s Children Home, Home of Grace (a home for unwed/divorced/separated, pregnant women), St. Alban’s Ministry (a prison ministry), Camp Happy Sands (a camp for underprivileged children in Pensacola Beach), and Beckwith Conference Center. We have fun too. There will be live auctions with items like two Auburn-Alabama football tickets with a hotel room, a week rental for a house for twelve on the beach at Gulf Shores, a week rental for two houses on a bluff in Lillian overlooking Perdido Bay, state-of-the-art televisions, boat rides, guided fishing trips and numerous silent auction items. There are games for children and vendor booths with local flavor arts and crafts. Of course, we have BBQ to be enjoyed with the big band music of Don Lewis’ Band.
